His work bridges academia, industry, and research, with a specialized focus on the integration of AI into software engineering curricula and the development of innovative, technology-enhanced learning ecosystems. Currently serving as Associate Professor of Practice in Software Engineering at Western Governors University, Dr. Abu Matar leads initiatives to embed AI-powered instructional strategies into cloud computing, DevOps, and software architecture courses. He has also held teaching appointments at the University of Arizona, Regis University, and other institutions, where he designed and delivered forward-thinking programs in computing. As Consulting Dean of the Luminus School of Advanced Computing, he launched academic programs in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing, aligning them with industry needs and BTEC standards. He has also played a key role in founding bootcamps and diplomas focused on workforce-ready computing education. Dr. Abu Matar’s research centers on AI in computing education, model-driven engineering, smart cities, and service-oriented architectures. His work has been published in leading IEEE conferences and reflects his commitment to scalable, adaptable, and data-driven education systems. He holds a PhD and MS in Software Engineering from George Mason University, an MS in Computer Information Technology from Regis University, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Wright State University. Dr. Abu Matar is passionate about leveraging AI and digital learning technologies to make higher education more effective, inclusive, and future-ready.
