Trending Faith: What is the Point of the Old Testament?

A Bible open to the Old Testament with the Trending Faith logo

Grand Canyon University Pastor and Dean of Students Tim Griffin and Dean of the College of Theology Jason Hiles, PhD, discuss the purpose of the Old Testament in this week’s Trending Faith.

Pastor Tim discussed how the point of the Old Testament and the New Testament is to give context to what Jesus was teaching. The Old Testament, in particular, really helps solidify the teachings of Jesus.

When Jesus engaged in conversation with the religious leaders, it was mostly on the topic of the old covenant found in the Old Testament. Primarily, He spoke of the teachings of the prophets and what they taught about. The New Testament covers the reiteration of Jesus’ teachings on those old ideas.

All of Scripture is important to read and understand to see the glory of our God and the huge span of influence that Christ has had on our lives.
