Both the College of Education and College of Humanities and Social Sciences work together to create this well-rounded program for all history education students! This degree not only focuses on teaching students the art of secondary education instruction, but also seeks to develop critical thinking and organizational, collaborative and ethical decision-making skills.

Career Opportunities

The history education degree helps open the door to multiple career opportunities! The major itself is aligned to the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) standards for initial teacher preparation, the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards and the International Society for Technology in Education standards for teachers. The degree is regionally accredited and is a State Board of Education approved program that leads to teacher certification in Arizona. Once students have completed the program, they can begin teaching in grades 5-12. An education student may also decide to continue their own education by pursuing a master’s degree at GCU!

This degree is versatile, so students may be able to pursue other career fields outside of education as well! Graduates of this program will have the skills and expertise utilized in many job roles, including corporate trainer, administrative roles and many other highly sought-after positions.
