Are you a lover of history? Do your family and friends look to you for historical facts and quotes? When your lunch bill adds up to $12.15, do you naturally think of the year the Magna Carta was signed? If so, Grand Canyon University’s Bachelor of Arts in History for Secondary Education may be the degree for you! Here are three reasons why you should consider earning your history education degree at GCU:
What makes this major so unique at GCU, is the collaboration between two of its colleges. Both the College of Education and College of Humanities and Social Sciences work together to create this well-rounded program for all history education students! This degree not only focuses on teaching students the art of secondary education instruction, but also seeks to develop critical thinking and organizational, collaborative and ethical decision-making skills.
The history education degree helps open the door to multiple career opportunities! The major itself is aligned to the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) standards for initial teacher preparation, the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards and the International Society for Technology in Education standards for teachers. The degree is regionally accredited and is a State Board of Education approved program that leads to teacher certification in Arizona. Once students have completed the program, they can begin teaching in grades 5-12. An education student may also decide to continue their own education by pursuing a master’s degree at GCU!
This degree is versatile, so students may be able to pursue other career fields outside of education as well! Graduates of this program will have the skills and expertise utilized in many job roles, including corporate trainer, administrative roles and many other highly sought-after positions. GCU’s Career Services are available to guide students into field of interest, help create and build resumes and even prepare for an interview!
Sharing Your Passion
At GCU, you will be learning from experienced faculty with the same passion and dedication to history as you. You will also be surrounded by fellow classmates who share your love of history and will even have the opportunity to join the History Club on campus!
