Arts and Media Performance & Research
Canyon Emerging Scholars Program
The Canyon Emerging Scholars (CES) program supports faculty-led research while mentoring students in practical problem-solving. Rooted in the Boyer model, it fosters applied, integrative and discovery-based learning with a strong emphasis on reflection, collaboration and community impact.
Canyon Creative
CES students can explore Canyon Creative, a collaborative group that applies classroom learning to hands-on creative projects. Canyon Creative is a student-led group in our College of Arts and Media that partners with businesses, nonprofits and campus departments to provide design services such as advertising, social media and film. The club builds community, mentorship and professional skills while inspiring students to use their creative gifts to serve others.
The Research Behind the Curtain
In fine arts, research is performance and performance is research. We, as artistic scholars, fulfill the function of standard academic research and also strive to create; that creation can be another form of academic performance and research. Learn about the fine arts performance research we are conducting here at Grand Canyon University (GCU), and read works from our published scholars. You can also explore how we ensure our quality research follows best practices.
Research Pillars
Grand Canyon University’s research pillars reflect a Christ-centered vision of scholarship that connects inquiry with meaningful impact. Guided by a comprehensive view of scholarship that values discovery, integration, application and teaching, our work is organized around three strategic pillars: Teaching and Learning Innovation, Disciplinary Research and Christian Character Research. Together, these pillars unite faculty, students and partners in advancing applied and integrative scholarship that is designed to strengthen academic excellence, deepen formation and address practical challenges.
Academic Journals
GCU publishes and supports a diverse collection of peer-reviewed academic journals that contribute to scholarly dialogue across disciplines. These publications emphasize rigorous research, faculty and student mentorship and the dissemination of knowledge to the broader academic community. Most of GCU’s journals are indexed in recognized academic databases and include outlets for undergraduate research, discipline-specific scholarship and engagement-focused inquiry that extend the university’s academic impact beyond campus. GCU's journals include:
Institutional Review Board (IRB)
