Tech Trends for 2019

You already know how fast technology is evolving. Think back to just a few years ago and remember the cell phone, computer and tablet that you were using. It’s possible that you’ve since replaced those items because the technology has changed so much already.

Trends in technology are shifting toward new realms and alternate realities. But changes in technology are also looking at ways to keep our data and information safe people who would like to exploit it.

Today, many businesses and apps insist that we have online logins to run our accounts. This prevalence of completing transactions online means that our information is available to anyone who has the skills to hack into servers and databases. As technology continues to grow and become a more integrated part of our lives, cybersecurity becomes an even bigger issue and trend. But it’s not the only one.

1. Machine Learning

Machine learning is an interesting trend in tech. In short, computers are able to learn something that they were not necessarily originally programmed to do. They do this by looking at patterns in data and extrapolating new outcomes. While the average consumer may not be affected or understand the effect of machine learning on their lives, it is there. One way you may be aware of machine learning is through targeted ads when you are working online. Apps can look at sites that you visit or things you search for and target ads in your browser or social media profiles based specifically on your interests from past searches. 2. Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality

If you do any gaming, you’ve possibly come in contact with virtual reality, which enhances the user experience in a new environment. Augmented reality, on the other hand, brings new experiences into the user’s own environment. Both are also being used as training experiences and simulations for drivers, doctors and pilots. Augmented reality may be seen commonly in marketing and business experiences such as seeing your home with a new potential piece of furniture in it or seeing what you would look like with a different color hair or a new haircut. The trends in new realities allow consumers to experience new things in life.

3. Cyber Security

As mentioned earlier, cybersecurity is not a new trend in technology but an evolving one. Since technology has been around, creators have attempted to make online environments safe for users. However, as new technology evolves, new threats crop up. Hackers are constantly trying to gain access to data illegally and this will continue. They are becoming more skilled at finding ways around the cybersecurity measures already put into place. Therefore, cybersecurity experts are always having to find new ways to secure data. In addition, those who work in cybersecurity have to find ways to enhance security in the evolving technology where they’ve never had to secure information before.

4. Internet of Things

The phrase “The Internet of Things” refers to all of the devices that are now connected by Wi-Fi. Think about your home appliances, cars, phones and other devices that use Wi-Fi. Even if you just have a laptop and a cell phone, both of those things are connected to the same Wi-Fi connection. If you’re even more tech-savvy, you may have the ability to control your thermostat or security system via Wi-Fi. You might be able to start your car remotely from your phone or simply call out at an AI to listen to music. The growing trend of new devices needing Wi-Fi connectivity in order to run properly also plays into the concerns about cybersecurity. It’s possible that if one of these devices gets hacked, then hackers can gain access to everything else connected to the wireless network.
