Weekly Devotional: Fearing the Unknown

"The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.” – Deuteronomy 32:4

We often live in fear more than we realize. It is a natural human emotion. We are always afraid of what people think of us or if we are going to be put in awkward situations. We are afraid of failure and afraid of what we are going to do next in the next chapter of our lives. We are afraid that we won’t get into our dream school or won’t get a job after we graduate college. We know most things are out of our control, yet we worry about them anyway.

We Want Control

It is in our human nature to want to control every situation we are put in. We constantly have fear of the unknown. We want things to go our way 100 percent of the time. We want what we want and when we want it. If we run into a roadblock we get upset and frustrated. We want to control our future, but that is something only God has control over.

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7

God Has Ultimate Control

The only person that has control over your life is God. He knows every detail. He knows what your career will be, who you are going to marry, how many kids you will have, where you will live and everything else. He knows how many hairs are on your head. He has every detail of your life planned out and he will see it through.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

Trust Him

God is in full control, so all we can do is trust him and the plan that he has for our life. He knows what he is doing and we have to trust that. His plan may be different from our own and that might be frustrating sometimes. Maybe we aren’t supposed to be dating that person, or we may get our heart broken. However, there is comfort in knowing that later on, God has someone even more amazing planned for us who will make us happier than we ever were before. Sometimes God has to break our hearts in one moment to make room for the beautiful things to come. Even in difficult times trust God and the plan that he has for you, because he only wants good things for you and his plan is way better than our own.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5

You Will Live Your Best Life with God in It

If you trust God with your life, you will live your best life. God knows what he wants to do for you in your life and he is always there for you. If you accept him in your life, you will be able to live out the life that he has planned for you more freely.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28

Embrace the Unknown

Instead of fearing what is unknown, embrace it. Face the unknown head on at full force. Accept the fact that there are things in life that you can’t change and remember that God is always in control and he only wants the best for you.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
