Summer means many things to many people. For some, it means a time of rest and relaxation. Others see it as a time to get as much done as possible. No matter what end of the summer spectrum you are on, it’s important to stay close to God through summer.
With all the fun that summer holds, it is easy to break off from our school-year routine and leave God packed in the college boxes that sit in the garage. It’s important though to keep chasing God, no matter what season it may be and where you’re at.
Here are some ways to help every college student stay close to God this summer.
Do you commute to work? Do you listen to music as you play in the pool outside? Do you play music while doing chores?
Make yourself a playlist of some of your favorite Christian songs with a good beat. You can play it while you do the dishes or go on a road trip and praise God no matter where you are.
Podcasts are huge nowadays and there are so many to choose from. On your way to work listen to a sermon or see what the devotion for your favorite podcaster is for that day. It’s a good way to start the morning and also gives a change of pace for getting close to God. You never know what He will say through your favorite podcasts!
Wake up a little earlier than you usually do and open up your Bible and see what God has to say for the day. This will give you a little skip in your step for the day and serve as a reminder throughout your routine. Connecting with God first thing allows Him to be the first thing on your mind as you wake up and follow you as you face the challenges of the day. God loves it when we spend time with him, why not do it right before you start your day?
This often follows a Bible study or daily devotional but can be done on its own as well. Write down your thoughts and feelings, Bible verses to help you through the day and prayers to God. It helps to get it all down on paper and is a good way to remind yourself of God’s love throughout the day.
Praying can be done at any time of the day and is a good way to grow your relationship with God. Tell Him what you are feeling and ask for help in any areas of your life. Prayer is a conversation between you and God so feel free to tell Him anything.
