Once you have made the decision to pursue a college degree, you may be wondering what college life is really like. Maybe you have questions about what it is like attending classes or what it is like to live in a residence hall. Every college is different, and so is every college student. Therefore, the college experience will be different for every individual. However, future college students can research the schools they wish to attend to gain a better understanding of what life at the university will be like.

The college experience at Grand Canyon University is unique, due to the large amount of opportunities for students to get involved. No matter what you are interested in, you can find like-minded individuals with whom you can build lifelong friendships. Below are just some of the activities GCU has to offer students who want to get involved on campus.

Campus Events

Throughout the school year, students can attend a wide variety of events on GCU’s campus. Events like concerts, speaker events and Java Jams (student-led talent shows) give students the opportunity to embrace their time as a GCU Lope and meet other students.

In addition, annual events like Lip Sync, a lip syncing competition for students, and Mr. GCU, a male beauty pageant, get the entire student body involved. GCU also holds events like Career Week, where employers come to talk with GCU students, in order to help prepare students for a successful future.

Clubs and Organizations

At GCU, many different clubs and organizations are available to students to join and engage with student life during their time at GCU. Whether it be through joining an academic club, honors society or volunteer program, students have the opportunity to meet and network with others with similar passions and interests. Additionally, students can even start their own club on campus if they desire.

Student Leadership

GCU is committed to preparing students to become servant leaders of tomorrow. Make the most of college life by pursuing a leadership opportunity on campus. Members of Global Outreach and Local Outreach programs learn to impact others and make disciples in the local community and across all nations. GCU’s Office of Residence Life employs students to become RA’s to help maintain residence hall communities. Students who are musically talented can apply to lead worship at Chapel and The Gathering services. In addition, scholarships are available to those who become student leaders at GCU.

Chapel and The Gathering

GCU’s Department of Spiritual Life supports the student body in growing in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Chapel and The Gathering services provide staff, faculty and students the opportunity to come together to worship, hear God’s Word and build connections with one another. Chapel services take place every Monday morning in the GCU Arena, and speakers from churches around the Valley come to share messages. In addition, The Gathering takes place on Tuesday nights and gives student speakers the opportunity to share what God has put on their hearts.

Life Groups

Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of college life at GCU, Life Groups provide students with the opportunity to meet alongside their peers once a week to spend time in prayer, read God’s Word and share life experiences. These small groups are student-led and offered in every living area on campus. In Life Group, students can build community with one another in a Christian environment, and Life Leaders are trained by GCU staff to become mentors that lead the group and can meet with students one-on-one to provide support.

These are just some of the many ways students can become involved in the exciting college life GCU has to offer. If you are looking to become part of a supportive, Christian community while pursuing your education, GCU is a great place to do so.
