GCU Golf Course Gets a Hole in One

Grand Canyon University unveiled the GCU Championship Golf Course to the Phoenix community on Jan. 1, 2016. The course brings several exciting opportunities for GCU students, Phoenix natives and GCU’s golf management degree program.

The GCU Championship Golf Course, formerly known as Maryvale Golf Course, is a 54-year-old facility just four miles away from GCU’s Phoenix campus. The course has changed drastically through GCU’s $10 million investment; greens were rebuilt and bunkers were replaced.

Players of all levels can now enjoy the new and improved course, with five sets of tees on every hole and a course range of 5,074 yards to 7,269 yards. Players can also enjoy extremely affordable pricing, with prices starting at just $10.

GCU has also added an upgraded clubhouse to the facility, which features a pro shop, the Lope House restaurant and luxury event spaces. In addition, students in the Colangelo College of Business’ golf management degree program now attend their golf lab classes in the 22,260-square-foot-building. The second story is reserved for the men’s and women’s golf teams.

GCU’s partnership with the city is proving to be a success within the Phoenix community. Current and future students are also eager to have this new site to learn, practice and compete.

GCU’s Golf Management Degree

Grand Canyon University’s new golf course will add an exciting and innovative new dynamic to the Bachelor of Science in Business Management with an Emphasis in Golf Management degree. This program helps students to follow their passion for golf and learn the business of golf, from the playing the game to managing a golf course and tournaments to working with media, equipment and apparel. Students learn the steps to cultivate, market and manage business aspects of golf through challenging business and revenue generation classes.

In addition, the GCU golf course provides a hands-on learning experience to help students gain the necessary skills to easily transition into a full-time career. Upon completion of the golf management degree, graduates are prepared to search for a fulfilling career in the golf industry at recreational facilities, sports organizations, golf clubs or resorts.
