Grand Canyon University offers exceptional online degree programs. Career-driven individuals aspiring to teach students in grades 1-8 can join GCU’s online learning community, and earn an online education degree from the university’s College of Education. Below, find three steps for earning an online elementary education degree.

Review Available Degree Programs

Grand Canyon University offers an online BS in elementary education that leads to initial teacher licensure. The core coursework emphasizes critical thinking, historical issues in teaching and contemporary instructional theories. Since this program leads to teacher certification, it requires practicum hours, state exams, student teaching and an institutional recommendation from GCU.

In addition, GCU offers an online Master of Education in Elementary Education that leads to initial teacher licensure for individuals who desire to teach, but have a bachelor’s degree outside of education. For those with a teacher’s license looking to advance their education, we also offer an MEd in Elementary Education for continuing education.

Apply to GCU

If you are a committed and dedicated student who is passionate about learning the art and science of teaching, then you are encouraged to apply for GCU’s online elementary education degree program.

First, review GCU’s admission requirements to see if you qualify for admission. Then, request more information from GCU and work with your enrollment representative to complete the free GCU online application.

Next, request transcripts from each educational institution you have attended, and visit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) website to gain information on financial aid. Finally, after you have submitted your application and applied for financial aid, discuss your next steps with your enrollment representative.

Begin Your Program

Once you have applied and been accepted to GCU, you will be ready to begin your online elementary education degree program! After completing the program, you may pursue your dream career as an elementary education teacher, child development specialist or child advocate.
