Are you thinking about going to seminary? Grand Canyon Theological Seminary (GCTS) forms Christian leaders theologically, spiritually and professionally and equips them to minister faithfully and effectively within a challenging cultural context. If you feel called to a life of ministry and are considering going to seminary, here are five questions to ask yourself:
Am I Passionate?
Do you have a desire in your heart to serve others? If so, going to seminary may be a great choice. In your program, you will gain the biblical foundations necessary for a successful vocation in church leadership. Therefore, you will be prepared to go out into the world and make an impact for Christ.
What Kind of Degree Do I Want to Earn?
Grand Canyon Theological Seminary offers a variety of graduate degree programs. For example, the Master of Divinity is designed to train students who are called to serve in local churches, Christian organizations and other ministerial settings. Or, if you feel as though you have been called to minister to youth, children, families and congregations, consider a Master of Arts in Youth and Family Ministry.
Am I Ready to Invest in a Local Church?
No other environment offers the same opportunity to be in community with fellow believers like the local church. Grand Canyon Theological Seminary encourages students to get involved with a local church and engage in mentoring relationships, supervised ministry requirements and internship experiences. These experiences provide students with opportunities to grow both spiritually and professionally.
What Do I Want to Do After Seminary?
Before going to seminary, it can be helpful to know what you want to do after you earn your degree. For example, do you want to do nonprofit work, international missions or pastoral ministry? Having an idea of the specific vocation you want to pursue after you graduate can help you to make the most of your education and tailor it to your interests. If you are still unsure about where God is leading you, pray about it and ask Him to provide you guidance.
Has God Called Me?
One of the most important things to consider before pursuing a seminary degree is if God has called you. Ministry vocations require selfless sacrifice and dedication, as you allow God to work through your life. If God has placed the passion in your heart, trust Him as you take the next step of faith and earn your seminary degree!
