Applied project-based learning is a focus of GCU Technology. With its growth, students have continually been able to work alongside their peers and faculty to conduct research based on their own interests.
Here are some of the research projects and presentations students have conducted and events that students have attended:
Black Hat is an annual event in which attendees from across the world have the opportunity to gain insight into the latest information related to security research, development and trends. For all career and academic levels, attendees are offered individual trainings on a wide variety of topics and can sit in on briefings led by top industry experts.
DEF CON is an annual convention that brings together “hackers” from across the world. The event includes presentations on varying topics and competitions in art, lockpicking and scavenger hunts.
Red Hat Summit is a premier event that focuses on open source technology. Each year at this event, GCU students join thousands of IT professionals to network and learn more about high-performing Linux, cloud, automation and management, container and Kubernetes technologies.
Professor Jevon N. Jackson and students from the Bachelor of Science in IT and Computer Programming programs led a project called “Music Plugins for Digital Audio Workstations Research.” This project’s aim was to work collaboratively with GCU’s Recording Studio to create music plugins and VSTs that will better serve GCU and abroad. This research project also engaged students from a variety of disciplines.
As a GCU Technology student, you have the opportunity to benefit from innovative education, research and outreach programs that include hands-on projects with access to professional-level equipment. Software and technology infrastructures supplement the curriculum that is aligned with input from technology advisory board. Programs outside the classroom offer further instruction for students seeking more specified knowledge.
GCU Technology offers innovative cyber training in the latest tech fields while integrating critical thinking, problem-solving and hands-on experience. GCU Technology programs through the College of Engineering and Technology can prepare students for a career in the technology sector. GCU’s technology programs can provide students with hands-on education that fosters creativity and collaboration, and gives them the opportunity to use equipment not typically available to undergraduate students. Degree programs within the department emphasize emerging and innovative technology trends with GCU’s STEM-guiding principles at the core to provide students with technical education while nurturing the development of valuable soft skills.
