Support When It Matters Most
“My student services counselor has been so impactful. She walked me through orientation and helped me navigate the portal, which was very important for me because I am not tech-savvy at all.”

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our degree programs? Check out the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions to help you make an informed decision.

What is a degree program?

A degree program is a structured course of study offered by colleges and universities, combining general education, core courses and electives with set credit requirements. It outlines the skills and knowledge you must build to earn a degree, with learning outcomes tailored to your chosen field.

What degree should I get?

Choosing the right college program can be an exciting journey. Think about what sparks your interest, whether it's solving problems, creating something new or helping others. Explore fields that fuel your curiosity and align with your career dreams. With so many options out there, you can find a path that not only fits your skills but also introduces you to opportunities in the field.

How do I get a degree?

Earning a degree requires completing a series of academic requirements designed to build knowledge and skills in a chosen field. This typically includes finishing a set number of credit hours through general education, major-specific courses and electives. You must also maintain a minimum GPA and fulfill graduation requirements, which may involve exams, internships, capstone projects or a thesis.

Is GCU an accredited university?

GCU has been institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1968, demonstrating our dedication to academic quality and excellence. Many of our college programs also hold accreditation from respected accrediting bodies. For more information on specific program accreditations, please visit our accreditation page.

How long is a college semester?

GCU has three main semesters: fall (September to December), spring (January to April) and summer (May to August). On-campus courses follow a 15-week schedule, giving you time to dive deep into your studies and engage with peers. Online courses are structured into two 7- or 8-week sessions, allowing you to focus on one class at a time while balancing other commitments. With rolling enrollment and most classes starting weekly, GCU allows you to begin your degree when you're ready. Online, onsite and offsite cohort students have frequent start dates, so it's best to connect with a university counselor for the most up-to-date university calendar.
